Knowle and Totterdown Local History Society

The Knowle and Totterdown History Society was formed in April 1986 following a WEA evening course tutored by Anton Bantock at South East Bristol Adult Education Centre. Originally held in a member’s home the meetings grew to be so successful and popular that larger premises were found at Redcatch Community Centre.

We meet on the afternoon of the fourth Tuesday of most months. Our July meeting is often an outside walk or visit and might move to a weekend afternoon to encourage visitors. We take a break for holidays in August.

We are always pleased to welcome visitors, whether as speakers or far more often, as listeners. Our friendly group holds a wealth of local knowledge just waiting for the chance to show itself. We encourage our audience to share any stories and memories they have that are brought to mind from our meetings.

We are affiliated to Avon Local History & Archaeology (ALHA) which gives us access to great speakers, summer walks, free lectures and reduced prices for their Local History Day events.
